In a setback to search operations to locate the missing Dornier aircraft, the transmission from Sonar Locator Beacon (SLB) remained weak on Monday.
As a breakthrough remained elusive, only sporadic signals from the SLB, which was suspended since Sunday, are being received from Monday afternoon.
“Feeble signals are being reconfirmed by probe equipment of National Institute of Oceanography on-board the ICG (Indian Coast Guard) ship,” said a senior Coast Guard official.Though the SLB can transmit information up to 30 days, officials are concerned that signals are recurring in scattered and irregular instances.
“Regular and continuous signals from SLB will be vital for the search team,” the official said.
Eight ships and an ICG aircraft continue to search in the most probable area.
Search vessel “Sagarnidhi” also arrived on Monday morning after carrying out sub-surface search and seabed profiling.
