With the weather improving Sunday afternoon, rescue and relief operations resumed here and in other flood-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

Rainfall had almost halted the operations earlier Sunday in the Kashmir Valley, triggering panic among the residents.

It is the worst floods the state has seen in six decades.

"As the weather has improved, the aerial rescue and relief operations have begun again after a halt," an official said.

The aerial operations which begin at day break and continue till sunset are the only method of carrying supplies and ferrying the stranded people to safer places. Roads leading to the Kashmir Valley have been badly damaged by the rains and floods.
