According to the Chirayinkeezh police which is investigating the case, it was on March 28, last year, that Sajithakumari went missing from her home in Uzhamalakkal, about 40 km from here.

Her relatives filed a complaint with the Aryanad police and in May that year, the body of a young woman was found at a railway track near Chirayinkeezh in a mutilated condition.
The relatives of Sajithakumari recognised the body judging from the cloth she wore and the marks of a surgery she had undergone.

However, last month, Sajithakumari’s parents received a letter purportedly written by her saying she was staying in a rescue home in Kollam. Soon, her parents along with the police rushed to the rescue home and found Sajitha hale and hearty.

Sajithakumari was picked  by workers of a helpline on the day she went missing from the Kollam bus stand where she was roaming aimlessly. Her relatives claimed that she was mentally unstable.

With Sajithakumari’s return, the natural question has arisen on the identity of the woman who was cremated instead of Sajitha in March last year.
The police are now looking for new leads into the case.
