Woman IFS officer, her team attacked for checking illegal mining

A woman IFS officer and her team were allegedly attacked for trying to stop illegal mining in Rampur area of Nainital district, police said today.

Kalyani, a trainee Indian Forest Services officer posted at Tarai West forest division, with her team reached near Dabka river in Baintkhedi area on April 29 to prevent illegal mining and initiated seizing of a JCB machine and some other vehicles involved in the illegal work, police said.

But soon a large number of people gathered there and started protesting the action. They misbehaved with her, attacked their vehicles with canes and pelted stones, police said, adding that they managed to leave from there somehow.

On her complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC against District Panchayat member from Bazpur in Udham Singh Nagar district, Kulvinder Singh and 50 other unidentified persons, Sub Inspector of Ramnagar Kotwali, Mohan Chandra Pandey said.

An investigation is on in the matter, the SI said adding that however, no arrests have been made in the case yet.
