In a chilling incident reminiscent of the 2012 rape of a Delhi physiotherapy student, a mother of two was reportedly raped and thrown out of the moving bus in Belonia in southern Tripura.

Police sources said the woman in her twenties boarded a local private bus at Nidoya in Belonia at about 5 pm on Monday. She was traveling to Dhuptoli, but the bus stopped midway at Ekinpur and the driver informed it would not go any further.

After all the passengers alighted, the woman requested the driver to help her reach Dhuptoli. The driver agreed and apparently handed the wheels to the cleaner and approached the woman. As the bus passed through villages at a breakneck speed, he raped her and threw her out.

Later, locals rescued the injured victim, police sources added. Upon receiving a complaint from the victim on Tuesday morning at PR Bari police station, police arrested the suspected rapist Parimal Debnath and produced him in local court.
