Former union minister Yashwant Sinha on Thursday came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that an emergency-like situation prevailed in the country today.

"An emergency-like situation prevails in the country today... the BJP will meet the fate of Congress in 1977," Sinha told reporters.

Sinha, who visited the Samajwadi Party (SP) office here and attended a function organised on the 116th birth anniversary of socialist ideologue Jaiprakash Narayan, accused Modi of not allowing his Cabinet ministers to act freely.

"The home minister does not know that President's rule is going to be imposed in Jammu and Kashmir... the defence minister has no idea that a new company is entering the Rafale deal," Sinha said.

Rebel BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha also attended the function at the SP office and heaped praise on SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav.
