Another gang-rape was reported from the communally sensitive Meerut district, further fuelling the sense of unrest that followed the alleged gang-rape and forced conversion of a woman a few days ago.

According to reports, two youths of a particular community kidnapped a girl in the Parikshitgarh area of the district on Wednesday and held her hostage in their home for three days. The girl was allegedly gang-raped by the youths, who also made a video clipping of the act.

On Friday, after the girl managed to escape, she informed her family members, who in turn approached the police. A case was registered against the two accused. The police also conducted a raid at the house she was kept in and arrested one of the accused.

The victim gave her statement to the police and was sent for a medical examination. As the matter involved members of two communities, tension flared up in the area. A large number of saffron activists created a ruckus at the local police station, demanding stern action against the accused. Security personnel in strength had been deployed at the village to maintain order, sources said.

Barely a few days ago, a woman in Meerut alleged that she had been ‘gang-raped’ and ‘forced to convert’ by members of a particular community after being held hostage at a religious school.

Saffron outfits have been holding demonstrations demanding swift action to arrest the accused.

Enraged by the latest incident, some people attacked the homes of members of the other community. The situation is still said to be tense.

The sharp rise in the number of gang-rape incidents over the last few days has been a cause of concern for the officials and ruling dispensation. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has directed officials to take every step to check crime against women in the state.
