Within days of Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav's claims that his and his party's senior leaders' phones were being 'tapped', Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday accused the government of 'hacking' the Instagram accounts of her children.

''Phone tapping chodiye mere bachhon ke instagram account tak hack kar rahen hain...aur koi kaam nahin hai kya sarkar ke paas'' (Forget about tapping phones, the Instagram accounts of my children are also hacked....does the government have no other work?) Priyanka said in an informal chat with reporters.

The Congress leader had earlier lent support to Akhilesh's allegation of phone tapping by the Yogi Adityanath government. She had also decried Income Tax raids on some key aides of Akhilesh.

''Phones of myself and some other party leaders are being tapped....the chief minister himself listens to the recordings in the evenings.....some senior bureaucrats are involved in the act at the behest of the state government,'' Akhilesh had claimed a couple of days ago. The SP president had also said that he had the names of the bureaucrats, who were doing it on the instruction of the government.

Akhilesh had said that the BJP was staring at defeat in the next assembly polls and therefore, had unleashed central agencies on his supporters.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, however, had defended the Income Tax raids. Adityanath said that only a man with a 'guilty conscience' would fear the raids. ''How can someone's wealth double in five years....it is possible only in the SP government,'' the Chief Minister had said.
