BJP workers allegedly thrashed a Muslim youth, who questioned the NDA regime over unemployment during a TV show in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar town, about 500 kilometres from here.

According to sources, the youth, identified as Adnan, who was part of a live TV show organised by a local channel, questioned the BJP leader on lack of employment, on Wednesday evening.

Angered by the remarks, BJP supporters, who were present there, allegedly thrashed the youth, sources said.

Local BJP leaders alleged that the youth had made ''objectionable'' remarks against prime minister Narendra Modi, a charge denied by the youth.

Police said that no complaint had so far been lodged by the victim. ''We will take action if a complaint is lodged,'' said a senior police official in Muzaffarnagar.

Sources said that Adnan refused to lodge any complaint fearing for his safety.
