The incident occurred when people were holding demonstrations after the body of a teenager, Faizan, who was drowned Jhelum on Friday, was recovered. Locals allege that some policemen had beaten up Faizan and threw his body into the river. Police said security forces opened fire as demonstrators turned violent. A large number of people took to the streets after the body was recovered. They held demonstrations and moved in procession to the DC’s office.
Police had also used smoke shells and resorted to truncheon charge, as demonstrators pelted them with stones. Twenty-five were injured in the clash.
