Communist Party of India-Marxists (CPM) General Secretary Prakash Karat described the YSR Congress as “a truly non-Congress secular party in Andhra Pradesh”.

In Hyderabad to participate in a two-day meeting of the CPM's state executive committee, Karat said there was no prospect of an electoral alliance with the Telugu Desam Party as the regional party was heavily pushing for an alliance with the BJP to cash in on the ongoing erosion of vote bank of the scam-ridden Congress and the United Progressive Alliance government.

Karat said the CPM was opposed to the no-liberal policies of the BJP as well as the Congress as both were aimed at benefiting corporates in the garb of giving sops to the rural and urban poor. “That is why we are opposed to the campaign and propaganda of both Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi,” he said. The Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, could never become a substitute to the Left parties in the campaign against corruption in the public domain, he added.
