New Delhi: Lok Sabha on Wednesday witnessed high drama as Trinamool Congress and BJP MPs came close to a scuffle during the introduction of Bills to remove PM, CMs and Ministers after their detention in serious crimes. Opposition MPs tore the Bill and threw the pieces in the Well.
As Home Minister Amit Shah was moving a motion to send the Bills to a Joint Committee, Trinamool MPs led by Kalyan Banerjee came close to him, prompting Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Ravneet Bittu to rush to his aid. Other BJP MPs also rushed near Shah and an argument ensued.
Opposition MPs like K C Venugopal, Manish Tewari, Asaduddin Owaisi, and N K Premachandran opposed the introduction of the Bills saying it violated the basic structure of the Constitution and was an attempt to target Opposition-led governments.
Venugopal went on to refer to the arrest of Shah while he was Minister of State for Home in Gujarat in a riots case but Shah rebutted immediately saying it was a false case and he had resigned on moral grounds.
