The tiny white and black seeds originating from Central America have been a staple in ancient Mayan and Aztec diets. Rich in fibre, Omega-3 and protein, these little nutrients help you stay fuller and cooler. That makes them a favourite agent to target weight loss.

Make the most of their mineral content - calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium - by including them in your daily diet. Perfect for all age groups. Did you know – two tablespoons of chia seeds gives you 177 mg of calcium?

Here are six ways in which you can say cheers to chia and celebrate better health:

Smoothie up

Trying to shed kilos? Blitz blueberries, oats, banana and chia seeds with chilled milk and tank up on the healthiest smoothie of the season. Chia seeds swell up with pride when immersed in fluids and fill your stomach easily.

In a bowl

Smoothies in a bowl bring in a combination of fruits, healthy veggies, dry fruits and healthy seasonings such as sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia and basil seeds. Sprinkle on for the crunch and wholesome intake for a spot of healthy eating.

Sprinkle in

Infused water is a boon. Fill up jugs with chia mixed in for a delightful mix. You can add a slice of orange, apple or cucumber for a fruity spin. Sprinkle on puddings and salads, toss into bakes and juices, to make the most of the seeds.

Mix away

Stir chia seeds into lemon juice, kokum sherbet, sugarcane juice, thandai, fresh fruit juices or coconut water. These will also hold you full and prevent hunger pangs. Chia gulkand water is a superb choice in summer hydrators.

Eat well

Work the warriors into yogurt, cereal, soups and batter for making dosas, idlis or pancakes. With their fleeting nutty flavour, they are cool, non-interfering inclusions.

New routes

Toss into your bakes if you are good with the oven, while you are whipping up muffins and loaves. Else, add to stir fry vegetables or work into the kneading of the flour.

Make way for this excellent source of fibre and protein for superb digestion and energy.
