There is a famous story about saint Kanakadasa. Once his Guru gave a banana to disciples and told them to eat it at a place where no one can see them. All the disciples, except Kanakadasa, searched a secret place and ate the banana. Kanakadasa returned to his Guru with the banana in his hand. His Guru asked him why he did not eat the banana. Kanakadasa replied, "I could not find a single place where God would not see me."
Here is another similar story. Hazart Umer (Rez) was the third Caliph who ruled with great power in Saudi Arabia. He used to be engaged in welfare activities of his people all through the day. At night, he used to go on surprise city rounds in disguise to understand what is happening in his state. One night, he came across a house. There was some conversation going on between a woman and her daughter. The woman was asking her daughter to add water to milk and sell it to make more money. The latter said she would not do so as the Caliph has ordered the citizens not to adulterate milk. The woman said how silly she could be as if the Caliph is watching all the time. The daughter said, "The Caliph may not be watching us. But the God is observing us all the time. No, I won't add water to milk." The Caliph understood that his citizens are God-fearing.
From these two stories, we conclude that God-fearing is a great treasure containing various wordly and religious expectations. Furthermore, human kind is genuine and distinctive in this cosmos because of the numerous traits that God has bestowed upon it. Hence, it becomes obligatory for us to follow a good path.
Repetition of God consciousness is one of the interesting things that we find in the Quran and other religious scriptures. Allah (SWT), for example, repeatedly refers to life Hereafter. Because as human beings, we have a inclination of overindulging in the affairs of this world and in the process, we forget about the accountability of the Day of Judgment. Good nature and behaviour always protect us. They safeguard us from the consequences of our own actions.It implies self-restraint and guarding ourselves from all sins and wrong deeds.
