The Indian wolf, an endangered species, the pair was rescued from the wild and rehabilitated at Gadag Mini Zoo, during January 2009, when both male and female Indian wolves were around two months old. The pair is now one and a half years old and they have already proven to be a breeding pair.
The she wolf gave birth to a pup, which did not survive. M N Jayakumar, member secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka realising the need for better health care decided to transfer the pair to Mysore Zoo. The Central Zoo Authority has accorded permission for housing the animals in Mysore Zoo.
A long gap
After observing the quarantine formalities, the pair will be released into the enclosure. The Mysore Zoo now has the opportunity to display the Indian wolf to the general public again after a gap of more than 25 years.
