NGV’s Arbindan Subramaniam clinched the CVL Sastry memorial Karnataka table tennis championship on Saturday.
Playing in the youth category, Subramaniam (NGV) got the better off Karthik Surya from MSSTTA, as he defeated his competitor 11-6, 11-7, 11-13, 4-11, 11-9 in the summit clash.
Earlier, Subramaniam was put to a stern test by GSC’s Pavan Kishore in the simfinal match. The match, which was stretched`into a fifth game, saw the NGV lad emerge victorious 9-11, 14-12, 12-10, 8-11, 11-7.
The corresponding fixture in the girls’ category saw BNM’s MV Spoorthi rally past Archana Kamat in another five-setter to win in the title 3-2.
Though the BNM girl started the game brightly, winning the opening set 11-7, she lost her inital spark as game progressed surrendering the following two sets 4-11 and 5-11.But, recording a comeback, Spoorthi went on to win the final two sets as she sealed the match 11-7, 4-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9.
