Off-spinner R Ashwin has been ruled out of the remainder of one-day international series against South Africa after he sustained a left side strain during the first ODI against South Africa at Green Park Stadium on Sunday.
He will be replaced by Harbhajan Singh who would be joining the squad from the second ODI in Indore.
“After making a detailed assessment of the injury, the BCCI medical team will confirm the time frame required for Ashwin to fully recover from the injury,” BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement on Sunday.
“Harbhajan Singh has been included in the Indian squad, and he will join the team before the second match of the series in Indore.”
Ashwin got injured while fielding off his own bowling against de Villiers.
