Although the State Government is yet to finalise the list of Ekalavya awardees, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Appachu Ranjan on Wednesday said that this year’s winners will take home a richer purse.

While the prize money for Ekalavya winners has been doubled from Rs 1 lakh to 2 lakh, the life-time achievement award recipients will take home Rs 1.5 lakh, richer by Rs 50,000 as compared to last year.

“The Ekalavya is Karnataka’s No 1 sports award. In modern times one lakh counts for very little. As a result, we’ve decided to increase the prize money from Rs 1 lakhto 2 lakh. Similarly we also raised the bar for life-time award recipients,” the minister told Deccan Herald.
