Three cricketing legends of the country, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid and Javagal Srinath, joined hands to inaugurate the renovated Chikkamagaluru Golf Course (CGC) here on Saturday.

Kumble and Dravid tried their hands at the game and the cricketers then declared open a two-day tournament for the Brigade Cup at the course which is spread over 83 acres and is an 18-hole one, compared to the nine-hole course previously.

“Immense effort has gone behind converting the 9-hole course to an 18-hole one,” said Kumble, paying credit to the CGC founder-president AB Sudarshan and his team. “Chikkamagaluru is popular for its natural beauty. I believe very soon, the district will become a sporting hub,” he added.

Dravid hoped more national-level tournaments would be held at the venue. The former batsman also quipped that on his next visit to Chikkamagaluru, he would fine-tune his skills and play better golf.

“The new course offers great promise and I wish it will be able to identify many emerging talents in the days to come,” said Srinath.

Sudarshan said over 275 players from around the State were taking part in the tournament, which is into its tenth year.
