The Adam Gilchrist-led side suffered a humiliating loss in the first game against debutante Pune Warriors but Chawla said his team has enough quality to get back to winning ways in the Twenty20 tournament. “We have got some quality players and we are going to bounce back in the game,” the 22-year-old said during an interaction here on Tuesday.

“We are gelling well, we were mentally prepared for the changes that we are seeing. There is nothing negative despite our first game loss and we know that it was just a bad day. We have to face the reality that we are a new side, we are very positive about it. We have a new captain, and hopefully things will go well,” added Chawla, who has been with KXIP since 2007 even as many new players joined in, including captain Gilchrist and coach Michael Bevan in IPL 4.

Part of India’s World Cup winning squad, Chawla said he rates himself as a bowler who can bat and should not be seen as an all-rounder. “Whenever I get a chance to bat, I try to do my best. I am a bowler who can bat, I never said that I am an all-rounder though it always remains my endeavour to get few runs for the team,” he said.

Chawla, who has featured in 25 ODIs and 61 T20s, feels Twenty20 is a format where a spinner is bound to go for runs, but said it hasn’t stopped him from bowling an attacking line.
