The Corporate Champions race in the World 10K will be run at a separate date after a mistake on the part of the organisers saw many runners take a different turn shortly after the start.

Some of the athletes were directed back to the right course while the others continued on, leading to confusion, chaos and a protest by the runners. More than 300 runners representing different companies were to take part in the race.

“We are sorry for the mistake and the race will be conducted again in four weeks’ time,” said Vivek Singh, Joint Managing Director of Procam International, the race organisers.

“The entry fee will be refunded, there won’t be any entry fee for the rescheduled event and they will have a shot at the prize money,” said Vivek Singh, who said a date and place for the event will be announced later after consulting all the stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Elite athletes again faced problems from participants in other events, with runners from the Open 10K and Senior Citizens Run still on the road during the main races. Kenya’s Helah Kiprop had to squeeze past a Senior Citizen participant as she vied for the top spot, eventually finishing fourth.
