The Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday was abandoned due to rain.

Despite a Herculean effort from groundsmen and after four pitch inspections, the match officials decided that the tie would be called off due to unfit playing conditions.

There were three super-soppers deployed at the ground after it stopped raining around 5 p.m.. However, parts of the outfield were still damp following the last inspection at 6.50 p.m.

The tickets will be refunded to the 50,000 spectators, who had weathered the rain to watch the match at the stadium.
