England were 33 for two and leading Australia by seven runs at the close on the third day of the first Ashes Test at the Gabba on Saturday.

Skipper Joe Root was not out five with Mark Stoneman on 19 after Josh Hazlewood took two early wickets.

Steve Smith remained unconquered on 141 off 326 balls in Australia's first innings 328.
