Bengaluru, DHNS: Former captain of the Karnataka Ranji Trophy team and a former KSCA vice-president Dr S Krishnamurthy passed away on Thursday. He was 79 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
A wicket-keeper-batsman, Krishnamurthy made his Ranji debut for Mysore during the 1959-60 season and went on to play in 32 first-class matches, scoring 1336 runs.
After retirement, Krishnamurthy, a qualified doctor, served as a vice-president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and chairman of the selection committee.
"This is really sad news. We played a lot of cricket together," said legendary spinner EAS Prasanna. "He was an excellent wicket-keeper. He was a very good student of the game. He was a gentleman."
Former Indian captain GR Viswanath remembered Krishnamurthy as a gentle, soft-spoken man. "He was a lovely person; he had no enemies. He was manager of the team when I was playing for Karnataka. He was a bridge between the players and the association," he said.
