Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday announced 'this chapter is over', indicating an end to his time at Al-Nassr.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star has had a trophyless time at the Saudi club despite moving for a record transfer fee and drawing much attention to the football league there.
However, as the ex-Juventus striker noted that his story is still being written, and with hints of Ronaldo participating in the Club World Cup, here's a look at what could be next for the ageing Portuguese talisman.
Brazil beckons?
With rumours circulating that Ronaldo might be part of the Club World Cup, further fuelled by FIFA chief Gianni Infantino stating CR7 'might play' in the competition, there is a likelihood he could head to Brazil. Infantino reportedly hinted that there are 'discussions with some clubs'. Botafogo, Fluminense, Flamengo and Palmeiras are the Brazilian clubs participating in the tournament.
Al-Hilal
With the 40-year-old's recent performance, a return to European football seems unlikely, unless Ronaldo accepts a major wage reduction. However, Al-Hilal, a fellow Saudi club which is participating in the Club World Cup, could well be on the cards.
Monterrey
Mexican club Monterrey could be another possible destination for Ronaldo, as the club is part of the Club World Cup, and CR7 could reunite with his Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos for a sensational tournament.
Sporting CP
While Ronaldo has earlier junked a possibility of returning to his boyhood club, that could change given his current prospects. His stellar performances for the Lisbon club paved the way for an entry to Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United. Further, with Viktor Gyokeres poised to leave, the club could be looking for a replacement striker.
Re-United or Esperance Tunis?
Although extremely unlikely, given how things ended the last time, many Manchester United fans might be hoping for Ronaldo's return to the Theatre of Dreams for a proper sendoff. However, given United's current ownership, finances, and the lack of European football for the club, Ronaldo is highly unlikely to be returning to England. Not to mention, the Premier League can be very unforgiving for a 40-year-old.
A report also linked Ronaldo to Tunisian club Esperance Tunis. However, even if such a transfer were to materialise, given the club's finances, the Portuguese would likely join just to be part of the Club World Cup.
