Former Karnataka middle-order batsman Krishnaraj Sriram passed away here on Thursday following a brief illness.

He was 43 and is surivived by his wife and two children -- a daughter and a son.
Born in Madurai, Sriram appeared in 15 first-classes matches for Karnataka while scoring 644 runs with a century (174) and a half-century. He also played five List A matches.

The highlight of his career was being part of the Karnataka side that won the Ranji Trophy in 1995-96, beating archrivals Tamil Nadu.

Sriram’s brother K Srinath, who is now a BCCI first-class umpire, also played for Karnataka before going on to represent Tamil Nadu.

Interestingly, both Sriram and Srinath were part of the 1996 Ranji final, playing for rival teams.
