Karnataka coach J Arun Kumar must have had a huge smile on his face when he heard of Abhimanyu Mithun’s return to the State team for the do-or-die encounter against Maharashtra at the Subrata Roy Sahara stadium.

The pacer was selected as part of the squad for India’s T20s against England but did not get a look in. The dejected 23-year-old came into this Ranji Trophy game with a lot of intensity and that resulted in one of his best spells this season.

“I really don’t know why I get left out (of the playing eleven). I have done well for the country and when I play domestic cricket, I do well here too. Even if I play well in one match I get left out of the next match so I don’t know.”

“Conditions in the morning were very helpful but the important thing to do was to make the most of it and we did,” said the bowler after his effort which could well propel Karnataka into the quarterfinals.

“Later in the day the wicket became very flat so it became increasingly hard for us. Tomorrow we’ll be starting early and we’ll have a new ball in hand so I hope we can knock off eight more wickets.”
