Ravindra Jadeja has come a long way since making his international debut in 2009. The 28-year-old spinning all-rounder, who has established his place in all formats of the game, was one of the standout performers in India’s 4-0 thumping of England. Basking in the success of his fine effort, the Saurashtra player recalled the struggles of his younger days.
“International cricket provides lot of luxuries to players but during my younger days as a player, the scenario was a lot different. Until I started playing international cricket, it was difficult for me to afford my own shoes or jerseys for matches. I had to do jugaad with my friends for shoes. I have been playing since under-14 level and at that age, I didn’t have proper facilities. I had to wear whatever was available and go play,” said Jadeja, who was here at the city to announce his association with sporting brand ‘Zeven’ as its ambassador.
Following a string of good performances in Test cricket, Jadeja said he is keen on continuing the good show and not concerned about the fame and attention that comes by his side. “I just want to keep playing well. If you are successful and contribute to the success of the team, fame and endorsements will follow. Right now, I am just hoping to have a great 2017,” he said.
