Karnataka eves settle for silver

Karnataka women had to settle for silver after losing to Haryana in the women’s netball final of the 35th National Games here.

Haryana won in convincing fashion, the score of 53-37 being an indicator of their dominance.

Haryana exerted early control, taking the first quarter 15-9 before topping the second 14-8. Karnataka fought hard in the third but Haryana edged ahead 11-10 before wrapping up the gold by surging through the fourth quarter 13-10.

Haryana completed a golden double, defeating Punjab 58-53 in the men’s final. Kerala won the bronze beating Karnataka 48-43.

Rowing

Karnataka won two silver and a bronze in rowing events at Alapuzha.
In the men’s coxless four, the Karnataka quartet of Sojan Mathew, Binto Thomas, Lakshmanan Kaliyappan and Ajay Singh timed 1:27.00 to finish behind Services (1:25.00).
The other silver came in the men’s coxed eight, with Services again winning the gold in 1:21.00 against Karnataka’s 1:23.00.

In the men’s light weight double sculls, the Karnataka pair of  Fasal Mohammad and Bijesh Kumar claimed the bronze, behind Services (1:31.00) and Delhi (1:32.00). They timed 1:33.00.
