In a shocking news, it has come to light that a cricketer under the scanner of the BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Unit that looks into malpractices in the game was picked by a franchise at the recent players’ auction for the third edition of the Karnataka Premier League.
Deccan Herald has reliably learnt that the player, who turns out in KSCA’s Group I, Division III league, came under the ACSU radar for his suspicious movements around a few Indian Premier League teams in the last edition of the cash-rich event.
While there is no direct charge or proof against the said person, the ACSU had sent out an email, with his photo attached, strictly asking the franchises to keep their players and officials away from him.
“He has been spotted not just at IPL but also at other T20 leagues in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh without any apparent reason. He is neither a player and nor part of any team set-up but still he used to hang around team hotels and try to get close to players. The ACSU took note of it and shot off an email to all the franchises to keep a distance from him,” said a source in the know of IPL affairs.
BCCI’s ACSU chief Ravi Sawani while refusing to divulge any details regarding the suspected person maintained that the KPL didn’t fall into his jurisdiction. “But I’ll see what can be done about it,” he added.
The player was picked for Rs 10,000 by one of the three new franchises in the fray for this edition to be held from Aug 28 to Sept 12. From the reaction of the KSCA secretary Brijesh Patel, who returned from abroad just in time for the auction, it was evident that he was in the dark about the said player. “I am not aware of all the players that have been picked, I’ll look into it,” said Brijesh.
