Marcose Gigu and Yashaswini Ghorpade emerged champions in the cadet boys’ and girls’ sections respectively in the 47th State-ranking table tennis tournament at the Canara Union on Friday.

Marcose prevailed in a stiff battle against Sujan Bharadwaj C in the summit clash, winning the contest 8-11, 12-10, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8 for the title.

Marcose had earlier set aside Srikanth 11-13, 11-6, 11-3, 11-2 in the semifinals.  In the girls’ final, Yashwaswini lost the first game 10-12 to Anarghya Manjunath, only to bounce back to win the next 11-7.  Anarghya hung on to clinch the third game 11-9 but went down in the next two games 6-11, 11-5 as Yashaswani clinched the crown.

Semifinals: Sujan bt Aakash KJ 11-8, 11-6, 11-4; Marcose bt Srikanth 11-13, 11-6, 11-3, 11-2.

Girls: Final: Yashaswini Ghorpade bt Anarghya Manjunth 10-12, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5.
Semifinals: Yashaswini bt Trupti Purohit 11-2, 11-6, 11-4; Anarghya bt Ishani 11-6, 11-6, 11-6

Quarterfinals: Anarghya Manjunath bt Sejal Kanade 11-2, 11-5, 11-6; Yashaswini bt Shreyasri 11-3, 11-3, 11-4; Trupti Purohit bt Prajuktadas 11-5, 11-7, 11-7; Ishani Harish bt Niharika 11-5, 11-7, 11-9.
