Heated exchanges among members, a walk-out by former India cricketer Kirti Azad and mud-slinging marked the AGM, two days after the dangerous Kotla pitch led to the abandonment of the final India-Sri Lanka one-dayer.
Storming out of the meeting, Azad alleged he had been insulted while Sunil Goel, a lifetime DDCA member, claimed he had been manhandled by Sports Committee members.
“During the meeting, I raised some pertinent questions about the accounts and formation of Cricket Committee, among others. I asked them what the DDCA was doing on cricketing matters but a lot of people tried to insult me,” an angry Azad told reporters.
“They say they have spent about Rs 30 crore since January on the stadium but they had no answer when I asked them the specific areas where the money was spent,” he said.
Azad alleged there were two factions within the DDCA who were responsible for the mess as they have vested interests in the association. The ruling faction denied allegations of manhandling. “Everything went on peacefully. A responsible man like Azad should not have made such an irresponsible remark. It is unfortunate,” DDCA general secretary SP Bansal said.
DDCA vice-president Chetan Chauhan also echoed Bansal’s comment and said nothing untoward happened in the meeting. “Azad was given due chance to air his views and he spoke for about 45 minutes out of the one-hour, 45-minute long meeting. He raised some queries which have been answered,” Chauhan said.
Sports Secretary Sunil Dev said he would resign if there was any truth in the allegations.
“If any of the members who attended the meeting say that something of this sort happened, I will resign immediately. “The AGM went off well, our accounts were passed. Eight directors were elected in a peaceful process,” he insisted.
