Back in the squad in place of the long-serving Sunil Joshi, the left-arm spinner made an immediate impact, bagging four wickets against Rajasthan in their Ranji Super League opener here on Saturday.
“It was a little disappointing to sit out and watch others play. Some of those who started with me have gone much ahead of me, and it was frustrating for me to watch all that helplessly. I got operated on my knee which kept me out of action for a long while. The recovery period was painfully slow and then getting back to action, proving myself... It was all very hard. But now all the hard yards I put in seem worthwhile,” he remarked.
The youngster was more disciplined than spectacular on the day. “The wicket is still batsman-friendly,” he pointed out, talking about his effort. “You have to be very disciplined on this track because there is nothing much for you as a bowler. Yes, the odd ball turns and seams (in case you are a pace bowler) and there is also a rough to be exploited against the left-handers, but there is not much to experiment. You have to keep it tight. I think all of us bowled tight In a way I benefitted from it.”
