Saketh Myneni, seeded-fourth, couldn’t’ cap a fantastic week with a title as he tamely surrendered to Frenchman Stephane Robert in the men’s singles final of $50,000 ATP challenger of Delhi Open at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA) complex on Sunday.
Myneni went down 3-6, 0-6 to his third-seeded opponent in nearly an hour. Myneni, had also made it to the finals of men’s doubles with Sanam Singh, but eventually lost to the first time pairing of Yuki Bhambri and Mahesh Bhupathi,
Myneni wasn’t his usual self and confessed not feeling comfortable since last evening. The Indian had conjured dominating wins enroute to the final, including the win over second-seeded Kimmer Coppejans of Belgium in the semifinals. However, against the 35-year-old Roberts, who was ranked 61 in 2012, the Indian came out flat.
“I am obviously disappointed. It just didn’t go my way. I wasn’t feeling 100 percent since the last evening. But all credit to Robert. He was really solid. Having said that, I had a fantastic week, and I hope to continue to better myself in the coming days,” Myneni said.
His final appearance fetched him $4,240 and 48 ATP points while Robert pocketed $7,200 and 80 ATP points.
