Ever since his comeback from a recurring knee injury in February, Rafael Nadal has created quite a storm, raking up one title after another. The Spaniard has reached the final in all the seven events he has competed so far, winning five of them. And legend Boris Becker backed him to win an eighth French Open title starting later this month.
“Well on paper, chances for Rafa are looking very good,” said the German who was here to launch the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class on Friday. “We all know he was injured for a long time last year but he has come back very strongly in February. He has won plenty of tournaments (five) since his comeback, including the last one in Madrid. His ranking is currently No 5 in the world but is bound to go up soon. “I guess he should come back into the top-4 which is very important for him seeding wise. There are also others like Novak (Djokovic) -- the No 1 player in the world -- and Roger (Federer). These two guys definitely have a great chance too. There is a huge question mark over Andy Murray who injured his back in the ongoing Rome Masters. I would say Rafa, Djokovic and Federer have a chance to win but Rafa is the strong favourite,” said the six-time Grand Slam champion.
Life is expected to come to a standstill in Germany on May 25 when either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund will be crowned the kings of Europe when the two rivals lock horns in the Champions League final. Throwing his weight behind Bayern, the 45-year-old said he his thrilled at the superb health of German football.
“I’m very happy that two German teams are in the final. But I have one favourite and my team is Bayern Munich. Two German teams playing at Wembley is a historic moment. The German national team is very strong at the moment and the club-level football is also very good.”
