Bengaluru: Quick start off the blocks and a sprightly finish to the touch pad saw young Chinthan S Shetty pip two-time Olympian Srihari Nataraj for gold in the men’s SKINS 50m butterfly race on the opening day of the fourth Nettakallappa Swimming Competition here on Saturday.
All eyes were on Srihari in the SKINS format (where top-8 swimmers tussle in a three-round final in a 25m pool) at the Nettakallappa Aquatic Centre. But it was 17-year-old Chinthan of Lakshyan Academy of Sports who stole the show to win gold with a timing of 25.16 seconds. Srihari, representing Dolphin Aquatics, clocked 25.49s to claim silver while Dharshan S, of Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, timed 26.31s to pick up a bronze.

In the corresponding women’s race, Rujuta Rajadnya of Deccan Aquatics (29.53s) finished first by outpacing Naisha Shetty of Swimlife (29.59s), who ended second, and Hashika Ramachandra of Bullblasty Aquatics (29.74s) who occupied the third spot on the podium.
The other SKINS event - 50m backstroke - earlier in the day, had Srihari (25.48s) and his club-mate Nina Venkatesh (29.76s) grab gold medals in the men’s and women’s races respectively.
