“Fielding is very much an attitude thing,” Vettori went on. “Ultimately, it’s up to the individual to raise himself. You must want the ball to come to you. When you let one or two slip, then the noise and the pressure of a T20 game and playing away from you can get to you sometimes.
“With all the travelling, it’s difficult to practice a lot, so it’s up to each and every individual to take the responsibility upon himself.”
Refusing to blame his batsmen for not chasing down Super Kings’ 182, Vettori added, “It was the fielding and the bowling that was the reason why we lost. The start was crucial but losing Dilshan first ball hurt us.
“We know there is plenty of quality in the middle order, but we needed that start to take some of the pressure off guys like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.”
Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan hasn’t had a great time of it so far for RCB, but Vettori pointed out, “We always expect a lot from our overseas players. I certainly expect a lot from myself, and I know that Dilshan wants more from himself.”
