Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramnathan overcame mid-game slump to prevail over Olympian Vishnu Vardhan 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3 in a gruelling encounter to claim the Sobha ITF Mysuru Open title here at the Infosys Campus Courts on Saturday.

For the record, Vishnu had the better of exchanges, thumping in 12 aces to Ramkumar’s four. They shared the same conversion of breaks, two off four each. Ramkumar won 16 games to Vishnu’s 15 and that made all the difference.

After sharing the first two sets, Vishnu seemed to lose focus early in the third set and allowed Ramkumar race away to a 3-0 lead.

Ramkumar then never squandered that advantage to take home the winners’ cheque of $1440 and 27 ATP points.

Vishnu had to be satisfied with 15 ATP points and a cheque for $848.
