Antil defied heavy downpour at the Alexander Stadium to log her season’s best, clearing a distance of 57.67 metres in her fourth attempt on the final day of the two-day meet. Her effort though was still short of Berlin World Championships qualification standard of 58.50m. She will get one more chance to qualify for the August 16-25 Berlin event on Wednesday in the LEAP European meet at Loughborough.
In men’s javelin throw, Kashinath won the gold by clearing a distance of 73.26M. In spite of slippery runway, Kashinath took the early lead with a throw of 71.29M which he further improved to 73.26M in the fourth round. The men’s triple jump event was badly hit by rain and Amarjeet Singh won the event with a modest 15.35M effort.
On Sunday, India had won three medals including a gold. Maha Singh had won the yellow metal in long jump while high jumper Hari Shankar Roy and shot putter Satyender Singh bagged a silver and a bronze, respectively. The Indian athletes are undergoing training-cum-competition in London at the Newham Sports Academy. They will take part in the LEAP European meet at Loughborough on Wednesday.
