The 17-year-old Sherazi, who had two wins before taking on Bhushan in the title decider, stole the show with a scintilating display of all-round snooker to outsmart his rival, who too had two wins before Sunday’s match. A student of the Baldwin Methodist College Sherazi stormed into a 1-0 lead. Sherazi looked battle-ready and took no time building a 47-23 lead before claiming the first frame with a 23-point break.

Bhushan, however, restored parity when he wrapped up the second. Bhushan, who took the runners-up spot last year against the same opponent, capitalised on a series of mistakes committed by Sherazi with small breaks of 8, 12, 5, 6, 14 and 14 to level the scores at 1-1.

Sherazi despite stuttering in the third frame, showed determination to come back and take a 2-1 lead. Bhushan showed glimpes of a fightback but Sherazi pocketed the fourth and fifth frames rather easily to seal the title.

KB Hariharan finished third with a comfortable 4-0 (55-21, 72-20, 85-52, 45-35) win over Zia Ur Rehman in thier last league match.

Sherazi and Bhushan by virtue of finishing in the top two places will get the right to represent the State in the Junior Nationals.
