Riding on a brace by Gladlin Steffi, University of Madras registered a facile 6-0 win over Pondicherry University in their second round tie of the South Zone Inter-University women’s hockey tournament here at the Chamundivihar stadium on Tuesday.
The Chennai girls were quick to get off the blocks as Steffi opened the scoring in the very first minute before R Manonmani doubled the advantage in the fourth minute.
K Vijayalakshmi then made it 3-0 in the eighth minute, while goals from K Stella (21st) and B Jelastina (34th) late in the opening half made it 5-0.
Later, Steffi returned to hurt the Pondicherry side once again as she slotted in her second in the 35th minute to complete the rout.
