Sumit defeated Canada’s David Volfson 1-6, 6-1 and 10-6 on Saturday that lasted nearly two and a half hours.
Sumit dominated the group matches. In the first round, he defeated Japan’s Kentaro Mizushima 6-1, 6-3 and beat Serbia’s Dusan Vukicevic 6-3, 6-4 in the second round. Sumit won 6-3, 6-3 in the third round against Israel’s Ben Fatael and won the quarterfinal encounter against Denmark’s Benjamin Hannestad 6-3, 6-2. In the semi-final, he defeated Russian Evgeny Tyurnev 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.
Sumit now gets ready for the 50th Annual Junior Orangebowl in Miami, Florida, December 17-23. Mahesh Bhupathi said Sumit is an exciting talent for Indian tennis.
