Tributes pour in as Little Master turns thirty-nine

Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar celebrated his 39th birthday on Tuesday as wishes poured in from all parts of the country.

“Thanks for best wishes and prayers for all over the year,” a delighted Tendulkar told a waiting media after a strenuous nets session at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here. It was Tendulkar’s first birthday after scaling the epic feat of scoring 100 international centuries.

The senior batsman arrived here on Monday along with wife Anjali, ahead of the IPL match between against Kings X1 Punjab.

The hotel, where his Mumbai Indians team-mates were put up, made arrangements to celebrate the iconic batsman’s birthday. Sources said that a 5-kg cake was prepared with a cricket field being the theme. 

Late Monday night, Tendulkar graced a private party orgainsed in his honour by a local industrialist.

Along with Tendulkar, some other Mumbai Indians players including James Franklin, Pragyan Ojha and Dinesh Kaarthick were also present on the occasion.

Tendulkar’s die-hard fans, meanwhile, made their own plans to celebrate the occasion. Last year, Tendulkar did not celebrate his birthday following the demise of his spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba. 

Earlier in the day, Tendulkar released a book published on him by The Hindu group of publications at a function.

Titled ‘Sachin - A Tribute To The Legend,’ is a fine collection of all the published reports of all the matches in which Tendulkar scored his 100 international tons. Besides, it has some rare pictures of the veteran batsman and a range of interesting statistics.

 Tendulkar expressed his gratitude to the newspaper after releasing the book on his birthday. The book was conceptualised after Tendulkar scored his 100th international century in the Asia Cup again­st Bangladesh in Mirpur on March 16.
