The top seeds Karnataka’s C Vasisht and Tamil Nadu’s R Abinikka claimed the boys’ and girls’ singles titles respectively in the KTPPA-AITA National Series under-16 tennis championships which concluded at the KSLTA Stadium here on Saturday.

Vasisht demolished Uttarakhand’s Mayuk Rawat 6-1, 6-2 to lift the crown while R Abinikka dismantled her State-mate Rishika Ravi 6-0, 6-2.
The Karnataka lad Vasisht towered over his opponent and made very few errors in a match which lasted barely 70 minutes.

Using his strong forehand, he blunted Mayuk’s counter-attacks and established big leads in both the sets before consolidating in style to take the match and the tournament. In the girls’ final, Abinikka, who had tasted success previously at these courts, bagelled her opponent in the opening set before Rishika threw up some early resistance in the second as she took the first two games.
But Abinikka regained her composure and reeled off six games to take the title. There was, joy, however, for Rishika and her partner Shivani Manjanna of Karnataka as they took the girls’ doubles title. Their opponents Sarah Dev and Baani Singh of Punjab gave a walkover.

Results: Boys singles: Final: C Vasisht (Kar) bt Mayuk Rawat (Utk) 6-1, 6-2.

Girls singles: R Abinikka (TN) bt Rishika Ravi (TN) 6-0, 6-2.

Doubles: Shivanni Manjanna (Kar)/ Rishika Ravi (TN) bt Sarah Dev/ Baani Singh (Pun) via a walkover.
