The Kiwis chased the total in eight overs and registered a ten-wicket victory at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.  "We did not expect to win this easily, but it helps us going into our next game against Australia which is huge. We need to stand up and perform against Australia," said Vettori.

“We wanted to bat first on this wicket that turned out to be a bit of up and down, and times tricky. We bowled well and our bowlers were dangerous," he said. Man of the Match Hamish Bennett, who returned with figures of four for 16 in five overs, said he merely bowled straight and full, and the bounce that at times was low also contributed to his success with the ball.

Meanwhile, the Kenyan captain James Kamande, who Saturday had proclaimed that his team would play “Kenyan brand of cricket” and looked to cause an upset, said his players were too nervous and taken in by the occasion. “Our players were nervous and were overawed by the occasion, but we will definitely do better in our remaining matches,” said Kamande.
