Google on Monday (September 29) launched the YouTube Premium Lite in India.
It costs Rs 89 per month and with this, users will be able to watch ad-free multimedia content such as cooking shows, podcasts, education, gadget reviews, do-it-yourself tutorials and more on the YouTube platform. This will be applicable across all the devices, including the TVs, laptops, tablets and smartphones linked with Gmail ID.
However, ads will appear on music content and Shorts and when users search or browse on any of the supported devices. Also, they won't be able to download any content for offline viewing later.
"Since launching YouTube Music and Premium, we've focused on giving subscribers a variety of ways to enjoy their favourite content, and Premium Lite is the latest step in that evolution. YouTube Music and Premium, and the expansion of Premium Lite, also continue to create additional revenue opportunities for our creators and partners," said YouTube.

It should be noted that YouTube Premium for individuals costs Rs 149 per month and Rs 299 per month for a family (four members) plan. And, Rs 89 per month for students. Whereas the Music Premium plans start at Rs 119 for individuals, Rs 179 for the family, and Rs 59 for students.
The new Rs 89 plan is being rolled out in phases and the new subscription option will start to appear on YouTube in all regions in the coming weeks.
With the new low-cost tier plan, YouTube plans to increase the paid subscription user base in India.
It can be noted that Netflix has similar basic plans tailored made for Indian customers. It offers a mobile-only plan for Rs 149 and Basic (HD) for Rs 199 per month.
Most recently, OpenAI launched the low-cost ChatGPT Go Plan for Rs 399 per month in August.
