With more than two billion active users, Google Maps is the most popular navigation application on all mobile platforms.
Some of the many reasons why people love Google Maps are ease of use, colourful UX and value-added features like 3D street view with fun animation in almost all top cities. But did you know there is a feature that can help you leave for home or go to work on time?
It has been there for several years, but many don't know it exists.
Here's how to get daily commute notifications and route details every day.
Step 1: Open Google Maps >> Select Home and Destination: Workplace
Step 2: As seen in the screenshot below, tap the three-dot icon (horizontal orientation) on the right side of the 'Home'

Step 3: There, you can set the time for leaving home and the estimated time of arrival at the office
Step 4: Then, the user has to set the reminder. As you can see from the screengrab below, Google Maps will offer the best route options, and the user has to select the best route that suits them and head to the destination.

Step 5: Next morning, based on real-time traffic data, Google Maps will suggest whether to leave early or go as per the schedule to reach the destination online
In a related development, Google is expected to replace the legacy Google Assistant feature with advanced generative Artificial Intelligence Gemini on the Maps app.
It will further improve the user experience on the navigation app. As per the latest reports, users will be able to summon Gemini within Google Maps and ask for details of a place or restaurant.
This will not only help the user get directions to the particular place, but also be able to show timings, and if it is a hotel, the app will be able to reveal the menu and also reviews.
