Google kicked off the I/O 2025 edition of the annual developers conclave at the company's Mountain View HQ in California, US.

The search engine giant announced updates to its advanced generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) Gemini 2.5 Pro models, AI Mode, and more.

The company also offered a sneak peek at hardware including Android XR smart glasses, 3D Video calling devices and more.

Gemini 2.5 Pro

It is touted to be the most advanced gen AI model in the industry. It boasts of Google's cutting-edge research technology in thinking and reasoning, including parallel thinking techniques. It can understand multi-modal queries. Users can use a mix of voice, video and image to ask questions to Gemini AI.

Also, it is capable of solving highly-complex math and coding as well. It supports 24 languages and can seamlessly switch between them.

Earlier this year, Google announced AI mode in the search app. It is available in select regions, capable of answering all general day-to-day queries.

Now, Google has integrated Project Mariner’s agentic capabilities into AI Mode. It can assist users book a sports match ticket or a table in a restaurant with less effort like a true assistant.

Using fan-out technique, it can break down the question into sub-topics and offer a multitude of queries simultaneously. This way, users can get the right answer or get a job done with less hassle.

For instance, a phone owner wants to use AI Mode to buy match tickets. It will present ticket options that meet his/her exact criteria, and they can complete the purchase on whichever site they prefer. This will save a lot of time and also users will always be in control of purchase.

The new AI Mode shopping feature can track the prices of products online. And, with the auto-buy option turned-on, it can get you the best shopping deals.

It will also support deep research feature. It will come in handy for students for school projects. For complex topics, it can deliver expert-level fully-cited reports in just minutes.

It will be first made available in the US and will be expanded to more regions in the coming months,

Whenever it comes to India, cricket fans will surely try the new AI mode to score those elusive IPL match tickets.

Gemini Live to get Project Astra

Gemini Live will soon connect directly to several Google apps including Google Maps, Calendar, Tasks and Keep.

And, Google will be bringing Project Astra live capabilities to Gemini Live.

Developed by the Google DeepMind team, Project Astra runs on advanced speech models. It was showcased at I/O 2024. It is capable of understanding complex queries and have long conversations with device owners to perform multiple tasks with less time.

With this, users can just open their phone's camera and point to a landmark or an object to get answers related to it instantly.

Users can talk with Gemini Live back-and-forth to get the details or clear doubts in just a few seconds.

For instance, a phone owner wants to redecorate his bedroom. He/she can open the Gemini Live and use the camera and point it to the room. It will give suggestions on how it can remodel or move the objects around to make it neat and tidy.

Or, students can also point the camera to math problems on the book and ask how to solve it. Gemini Live will be able to offer step-by-step guide.

All-new Imagen 4 and Veo 3

Google has introduced the new generation Imagen 4, an image-generating tool. It is integrated with the Gemini AI app. Users can type text with the description of an image, it can churn out high-quality visuals with life-like detail and better text and typography outputs.

Google is bringing the new Veo 3 video generator tool. The new capability include generating background audio. It can create ambient sounds of city street scene, birds singing in a park, even dialogue between characters.

Veo 3 is available for Ultra subscribers in the United States in the Gemini app.

Google Flow is the most advanced model, which combines the power of Veo, Imagen and Gemini.

The new AI filmmaking tool can assist users effortlessly create cinematic stories and scenes.

Users can describe the scene in natural language and manage the elements such as the — cast, locations, objects and styles --of the story in a single convenient place.

Based on the script, Flow can weave the narrative into beautiful scenes.

Flow is available for Google AI Pro and Ultra plan subscribers in the US, with more countries coming soon.

Google Beam

It is the company's AI-first 3D video communication platform. It runs Google's most advanced state-of-the-art AI volumetric video model, which makes the video calls appear fully 3D from any perspective.

It can seamlessly transform standard 2D video streams into realistic 3D experiences, allowing the user to connect in a more natural and an intuitive way.

It is being made available on the Google Meet video conference app. It is also capable of performing real-time translated conversations while maintaining voice, tone and expressions.

Google is also working with Zoom and HP to bring Google Beam to enterprises. The company says the first Google Beam devices from HP will make its debut at InfoComm event next month (June 7-13), Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA.

After dumping the smart glasses project almost a decade ago, Google has announced to foray again into the smart wearable business.

Unlike the previous edition, which had odd-looking spectacles, Google's upcoming new wearable will come with stylish design, on par with Meta's Ray-Ban glasses.

It is collaborating with South Korea's luxury sunglasses maker Gentle Monster, and US-based eyewear brand Warby Parker to bring Google's new generation smart wearable.

Similar to Samsung's soon-to-be-launched glasses (aka Project Moohan), Google's new wearables will run Android XR.

They will feature a camera, microphones and speakers. All the critical components of these glasses will work in tandem with the companion phone. This will offer access to all the compatible apps. All the message notifications will pop on the glasses and users can reply instantly with dictation mode. The glasses will be integrated with Gemini AI assistant and the latter will be able to display information for all queries.

At the Google I/O 2025 event, the company offers real-world scenarios on how the new Android XR glasses can be used to improve day-to-day life including messaging friends, making appointments, asking for turn-by-turn directions, taking photos and more.
