Former CEO of Twitter (now X platform), Jack Dorsey, earlier this month announced that he was working on an innovative 'bitchat mesh' messenger which can function without the internet.
Now, the full-fledged application 'bitchat mesh' is available for the public to download on the Apple App Store.
As noted earlier, BitChat does not require the Internet to send messages. Then, how does it work? Well, it makes use of the reliable Bluetooth technology of the smartphone.
With the latest versions, phones with Bluetooth can support wireless connectivity with devices anywhere between 100 and 240 metres.
To further extend the wireless connectivity strength, BitChat will use Bluetooth Mesh Network technology, where nearby phones with Bluetooth can be used to further expand the connectivity range beyond 300 metres.
However, users will be able to send messages over long distances, if the receiver is in different locality within a city or in another state or country.

User privacy security?
As there is no requirement for a centralised cloud server to send messages on BitChat, there is less chance of getting tracked by state-sponsored spying agencies or any private mercenaries.
Also, BitChat supports end-to-end encryption so that every message between users is fully secured and can't be tracked.
However, Jack Dorsey has revealed that BitChat has not been certified by any third-party cybersecurity agency to rule out if there are any security vulnerabilities in the app.
Is the BitChat app available on the Google Play Store?
Well, Dorsey has confirmed that the Android version of the BitChat app is still under work. But fake BitChat apps have made their way to the Google Play Store. Interested users are advised not to download them onto their devices.
Before installing the app 'bitchat mesh', check for the developer name. On the Apple App Store, it says the developer firm is the 'sidegroupchat' and the developer is 'Jack Dorsey'.
Besides the bitchat mesh, Jack Dorsey has also launched another app, Sun Day Tracker.
The Sun Day app can log a user's real-time UV exposure based on the location. It can even calculate Vitamin D based on UV. For this, the user has provided details such as skin type and also what clothes they are wearing on that particular day.
This will help the app to show how much the user was exposed to the UV and how much Vitamin D he/she gained on that particular.
