As Microsoft prepares for the new version of Windows 11, the Redmond-based company has announced changes to the iconic 'Blue Screen of Death' error message.

The infamous BSOD message was the most-used cover photo on news websites and print media when Microsoft Windows-powered displays and computers in airports and corporate companies worldwide suffered an outage in July 2024.

Well, the blue screen with a frowning face and QR code will make for a plain colour that matches better with the user interface of the soon-to-be-released Windows 11 update later this year.

"We’re previewing a new, more streamlined UI for unexpected restarts, which better aligns with Windows 11 design principles and supports our goal of getting users back into productivity as fast as possible. We’ve simplified your experience while preserving the technical information on the screen," Microsoft said in its blog.

In the latest preview build version, if the computer faces a sudden issue that requires to reboot, it will pop a green screen with a message: 'Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart'.

It should be noted that Microsoft first introduced the Blue Screen of Death UI with Windows 8 OS a little over a decade ago, in 2012. Now, it will soon be replaced with black UI.

In a related development, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 OS-based computers later this year on October 14. After the expiry date, PC owners will no longer receive free software updates, technical assistance, or security fixes from Windows Update.
